Monthly debate in English. Prescription drug addiction?!

Vendredi 15 novembre 2019 (Jour entier) - Jeudi 5 décembre 2019 (Jour entier)

State of play.

Monthly debates in English.

English-speaking interdisciplinary discussions at the CLSH, University of Lorraine, Nancy.
Organized by the Department of Philosophy and the English Studies Department.

Join us for the eighth of a series of debates about crucial and/or controversial contemporary topics!

This time, we will try to deal with the problem of prescription drug addiction, in particular – Oxycontin.

A recent scandal in the US has shaken the American pharmaceutical industry. Purdue Pharma has started paying out millions of dollars to cover some of the costs associated with problems due to one of its best-selling medicines, Oxycontin. Given as a pain relief drug, this opioid is highly addictive, a fact that was denied by its manufacturers in order to protect sales. We will discuss certain aspects of this affair, which will undoubtedly have an echo in France, a country with a high rate of consumption of psychoactive prescription drugs.
